Words of Elder Sophrony

"Everything you do, all your work, can contribute towards your salvation. It depends on you, on the way you do it. History is replete with monks who became great saints while working in the kitchen or washing sheets. The way of salvation consists in working without passion, in prayer…. May God give you the strength to keep your spirit, your mind, and your heart in the spirit of Christ. Then everything that happens to you can very quickly be radically transformed. What was tiresome and discouraging will disappear, transfigured by your desire to be there where Christ your God is."

Oh (puny fake) Christmas Tree, Oh (puny fake) Christmas Tree

Junior does not like our 'puny fake' tree this year.

When the kids were little we would make the trek out to tree fields and 'hunt one down and kill it.' I have pictures in the kids memory books of Daddy, Princess and Junior all dragging the tree back to the wagon for the trip to the tree shaker. When we got the tree home we always realized that it looked a lot smaller in the field, so we also made a mental note for the next year-'smaller tree'

...never did remember that note.

But things change and now we are in the time of small fake trees...Junior is at school and Princess just has no interest.

Junior did complain though when he came home and saw 'that thing' in our living room.

I told him that if he was so motivated to bring some real Christmas cheer into our home, he could make the trip to the tree farm and get one. Do the hikin', choppin', draggin', loadin' etc,...

I don't know if he will take me up on it or not, because that also means that he would have to un-trim one tree and trim another.

I don't even know if we still have a tree stand in the attic anymore.

He'll have to go up those steep steps and look...

Such is Christmas with 'old people.'

:) It is still a nice tree; just a change and change always comes with a little bump I guess. My family never had a real tree; a few years ago my parents were given a huge fake tree; it is already decorated and waiting for me to come home and see it. Can't wait.

Love the coloured lights. Beautiful. Love to you.

it is a nice tree. We're still doing the cut your own thing, but not a lot of motivation is going on. We chopped and bought one two weeks ago and stuck it in a pan of water in the garage. Hubby *just* brought it in the house last night. It still isn't decorated.

But, I am with your son. I do so like a real tree. but, will probably first start with buying those pre-cut ones (and a little one at that).

Junior might surprise you and go out for a real tree... I rather like my 4 foot, pre-lit fake one. Cost $20 last year and I plan on having it for quite some time. :)

And while I went for a tree this year (first in TX) and decided on a real one, you might remind Junior that home (and parents) don't remain static while he's off at college changing into a young adult!

Merry Christmas. There's a package en route to you from TX (first time in years, sorry about that). No interior wrapping.

Blessed Christmas!

I am with Junior. A fake tree is not the same. Whether I get one or not with the Cats of Catastrophe is another matter but if I do it will be real.

I"m a fake tree girl myself! Can't stand the needles all in the carpet that a real tree brings. Nor the effort involved in procuring one. Fake trees save money, too. I bought my lovely fake tree on clearance one year, AFTER Christmas, and that is the only way to purchase them.

My kids put the tree up and decorate it each year. I have to lift hardly a finger. Ok, so I do help a bit w/ the lights, but it's easy compared to when they were wee and I did it all myself.
